I don't know if you know that publication, but it's, uh, it's, it's fantasy, but it's, it's a really wonderful magazine.

It's, it's sort of like the Clarkesworld of, of fantasy.

Um, and it's a retelling of the flood my- myth in Gilgamesh, and I wrote it sort of in that kind of Gilgamesh style, middle Bronze Age kind of language using some of those conventions, and that was a lot of fun to, to do.

What's the name of that story so we can go looking for it?

And the magazines that publish these stories are institutions with their own distinct editorial philosophies.

This year, the Hugos highlighted a fascinating high level rivalry between two absolute juggernauts, Clarkesworld and Uncanny Magazine.

Let's break down how the awards split between them because it tells a really complex story about what the voters value.

The massive prize for best semiprozine, which is essentially the best picture award for the magazine world, went to Uncanny Magazine.

When you read an Uncanny story, you expect to be emotionally compromised by the end of it.

But here is the twist.

Uncanny wins the overall magazine package, but when you drill down into the actual fiction categories, the individual stories that were voted the best of the year, Clarkesworld completely swept the board.

Clarkesworld, under the leadership of Neil Clark, who actually won Best Editor Short Form this year, had an undeniably dominant showing.
