Caruso St John

I'm delighted today to be talking to Lucy Biert, Director of Hospitalfield up in Arbroath, Florence Peake, an artist, choreographer, and dancer who is speaking to us from London, and also down the line from London, Peter St John, architect and part of Caruso St John, the celebrated architectural practice that have worked with Lucy at Hospitalfield for a number of years.

But firstly, I'm just gonna bring in Lucy to talk about Hospitalfield, what it is, where it is, and what it looks like.

I mean, maybe we should just quickly say about the studio.

We've got this wonderfully ornate red sandstone Hospitalfield house, but then we've got all these various buildings attached.

And we've got the studio that Caruso St John recently renovated.

Tell me a little bit about that 'cause that's 1901 that was built.

Where in this world of Ungers, the pure and clear geometry of the building should be celebrated at all times.

While in a British building of the particular ones that I look at, for example, Caruso St. John, Ferguson Bates, Stephen Taylor, David Cohn, there are Let's say mannerism or disruptions are part of the game and bring humor and joy and lightness and provocations.

And that is something we like a lot.

How much do you look at architecture nowadays? I mean, it's hard to spend time looking at architecture actually at some point.
