Sounds like you only did it for six months and you were off to Macon.

And how was that? You signed a deal with Capricorn? Yeah,

through a friend that I went to school with.

We'd both graduate.

and were they were they full-fledged almond brothers were they weren't they like the almond joys verse or something

well no this now you know when i was going to school the almond joys i had a few sightings of the almond joys in tuscaloosa because all of those cats were from around tuscaloosa at that point

Well, landing and making Capricorn and doing that.

Audition.

It w- It was not a blockbuster release.

The record came out on the independent label called Capricorn Records which is a label better known at the time for Southern rock than country.

Distribution was limited.

Radio promotion was minimal.

After moving to Nashville he worked the local circuit, he played bars, he did some songwriter rounds.

He hustled to get noticed.

And that Capricorn deal was his first shot at making records even if it wasn't with one of the industry heavyweights.

Musically, In My Wildest Dreams leaned traditional.

But Macon's a cool little place.

It's where Otis Redding is from and the Allman Brothers and the Capricorn Records is there still.

And so they have a real strong, like creative history and they have several very beautiful theaters in town.

And we screened at the, at the Douglas theater, which is the oldest black owned theater in either Georgia, the South or the U S I forget which one, but it's, it's historic and old and very well maintained.

A forgotten chapter in the history of hair metal pioneers, Black Oak, Arkansas, is when it changed out most of its members, smoothed its sound, and signed to Macon, Georgia's Capricorn Records as Black Oak.

Formed in Northeast Arkansas, Black Oak, Arkansas was a force in hard rock and an early metal influence through the mid-1970s.

Already blazing trails and rock touring, a surprise 1973 hit single, a cover of the 1950s R&B hit, Jim Danny to the Rescue, elevated the sextet.

But Black Oak manager Butch Stone of Blyville pulled off a trick possibly more difficult than getting rough and tumble Black Oak, Arkansas signed in the first place.

That of getting a new deal for the once raunchy band rebranded with new musicians and a new name.

Capricorn's Phil Walden got his start booking bands for his college fraternity.

With his brother Alan, he handled R&B, including managing Otis Redding until Redding's December 1967 death.

So I'm just going to wait.

I have an original of the Allman Brothers on the Capricorn, so I really am not in a rush to get another

one.

You know what? Sinatra record is really expensive for whatever reason.

It's like they're literally at a bar and they just sing while they're like drinking.

We would have signed with Capricorn Records, and my sister, who's an actress, came in and was in the video.

All of this made authorities in Macon nervous.

[rock music] Because the FBI had been digging into the Allman Brothers Band and their label, Capricorn Records.

And they were convinced that the band wasn't just connected to politicians.

The FBI was convinced that the Allman Brothers Band were in deep with the Dixie Mafia.

It was Jimmy Carter.

[upbeat music] On a January night in 1974, the governor of Georgia attended a Bob Dylan concert in Atlanta, and then he invited Bob Dylan and the entire band and the crew to join him at the governor's mansion for a post-show party.

Jimmy Carter also invited Capricorn Records head Phil Walden and the Allman Brothers Band.

Band.And no one else from the band made it to the reception.
