The move aims to create a broader and more representative benchmark by reducing the index's concentration in a handful of large cap stocks, particularly banks.

So supporters say it could improve the visibility of more Malaysian companies and strengthen Bursa Malaysia's appeal to both domestic and international investors.

But beyond the headline, how much of a dif- difference will a large KLCI actually make for companies, investors in Malaysia's capital market? And does this materially improve Malaysia's capital market, or is it largely symbolic?

Well, for some insight here, we speak with Peter Kong, head of research at Kenanga Investment Bank.

Um, I also, you know, want to, uh, emphasize the fact that we are forging a lot of collaboration with regional exchanges.

As you know, I have recently been to, uh, Malaysia, uh, with Bursa Malaysia.

We signed an MOU with them in March this year, and, um, we recently recognized them as a recognized stock exchange, therefore making companies listed on Bursa Malaysia easier to, uh, come to Hong Kong for a secondary listing.

And this follows a very long string of other activities that I've been pursuing.

But I do think that, um, you should expect to hear more about- Uh, our, um, uh, progress, you know, in terms of attracting, uh, non-Chinese companies to, to list on our exchange.
