who Perky has just turned off his camera and muted his mic so it's just me and you Mas in all seriousness moving as we said in terms of Division 1B Nina relegated from Division 1A and we have seen University of Maynooth Barnhall promoted after a long fight to get promoted from Division 2A but they are back in Division 1B and what an achievement it's been for them we spoke about Dublin dominance in Division 1A in terms of Division 1B we had obviously seen Estonians in the top four last year and Gary Owen losing in a promotion final promotion semi-final excuse me against UCD but um in terms of the the balance in division 1b there are plenty of contenders for the top four along with the title we is it fair to say you don't expect to see a a horse get way out in front of the field early days um

yeah potentially not um you know you i suppose you you'd have to be impressed with trinity wouldn't you um the way that they went about their business last season.

I thought, I think, yeah, I think you could be right there.

I feel like I've heard people say they had to take out their, like, eyebrow piercing or nose piercing or ears.

Guy- guys were getting suspended from Blackrock College, my final secondary school in Ireland, guys were getting suspended for shaving their head.

But I shaved my head with a four, and my hair is so thick, still to this day, my hair is so thick that the dean, Barry O'Keefe, came up to me and he was like, "Close, but I'm gonna let you away with it." [laughs] And my hair was so thick I got away with it.

What, like, so, like, a buzz cut would be off limits?

Now Boyle's backstory is fascinating if you don't know it already.

So the Wexford native was enrolled in Blackrock College for the early part of his school's rugby career.

But his father had to pull him out during the 2008 global recession and he moved to Gorry Community College for the rest of his school days.

And the back rower explained how that meant taking a different path to a professional rugby career.

Leinster are excessively reliant on a couple of schools.

You know, if anyone that's involved in business having that level of reliance, particularly on two businesses being Blackrock College and St. Michael's College.

If you look at the knock-on effect of how many of those players coming out that don't make the academy or sub-academy in Leinster, then go on to the other provinces.

it's a crazy reliance on a very, very small, you know, group of two or three schools.

The nightclub and the people who were there that night would later be talked about almost entirely through the schools they had attended.

Blackrock, Gonzaga, St Conleth's, Terenure, and Clongowes were names that appeared again and again in newspapers.

A lot of young people knew each other, or at least knew of each other through school, rugby, friends, family holidays, and the fairly small social circles they mixed in around South Dublin.

Brian had never attended Blackrock College or Clongowes, but some of the later reporting made it sound as though this had been a fight between rival schools.

A senior Garda investigator later said there was no evidence that school or rugby rivalry had caused any of the violence.

Inside Annabel's, there was a lot of drinking going on.

Desmond Ryan was found not guilty of manslaughter, and his violent disorder conviction was later quashed.

We'll go through exactly how those different outcomes were reached as we continue through the podcast.

Then I've been really lucky to play alongside and then coach with and teach with John Crichton.

So John runs the program down in Blackrock College now.

So I'd probably say John was the one who gave me the confidence to go on and take coaching a bit more seriously.

Yes, we're a very similar age, but John stopped playing a few years before I did.

It's almost like you're creating all the things you talked about there, actually creating a buy-in.

You're buying into your school, buying into what you're doing, enjoyment, discipline, all the things that come with it.

And then you actually create people who just want to keep playing the game because there's so many kids, you know, like will just fall away from the game because they probably almost feel like, I know there's definitely some of the examples of Blackrock College.

Some of those guys are literally done because they feel like they've been professional rugby players since they were 11 years of age.

was right next door to us, you know? And so I suppose I had a kind of unique view of these rugby types growing up, you know? But I knew nothing about rugby until I was sent to cover a school's match And a kid from a school, I won't name the school, it wouldn't be fair, Blackrock College.

I remember he's coming off the pitch and he said to his dad, I don't give a fuck how you think I played, just crack open the wallet.
