Well, yeah, because of those cameo appearances.
Jon ArnoldHOST
64:24
Big finish, actually, because they're terrible audio monsters, obviously.
Jon ArnoldHOST
64:27
Well, yeah.

Audiobooks, audio drama, and this podcast all for the love of stories.
Riley SchreckHOST

Outside of the Doctors and Nicola Bryant, we have Alan Cumming, who played King James in The Witchfinders, and Michael Wisher, who was in 10 Doctor Who serials.
Riley SchreckHOST
2:10
And of course, the writer of the film, Nicholas Briggs, who is well in so many Who serials, and he's also an executive producer of Big Finish.
Anthony WilliamsHOST
2:19
Riley, I'd also like to shout out Gary Russell as the detective, who was also a former Big Finish executive producer.
Riley SchreckHOST
2:25
Oh, okay.
Riley SchreckHOST
2:26
There you go.

20 MINS LATER

Anthony WilliamsHOST
22:52
That was at a time when it was like, hey, who wants to be involved in this? Julie did not say yes to that one.
Anthony WilliamsHOST
23:00
Do not blame us for you saying, nah, I'm good.
Julie FilipecHOST
23:04
Hey, to be fair, that was also the period of time when I was the only one doing any of the big finish and that went on for a while.
Adam RichardHOST
6:21
kept inside the vault.
Adam RichardHOST
6:26
You know what would be great? If you wanted to do a Doctor Who heist movie now, movie or episode or comic book or Big Finish or whatever, is a heist where the Doctor has to go and release a slave From the time when there are slaves.
Adam RichardHOST
6:41
Like, that would be an interesting one.
Adam RichardHOST
6:45
I'm not talking about American slaves, but, like, you know, maybe Roman.
Taylor NelsonGUEST
18:50
As I say, J17, that sounds very vending machine like.
Taylor NelsonGUEST
18:54
But Michael, I'm going to say as much as I've got my desire to mystically someday, I don't know, write a big finish where Doctor Who meets Mothman.
Taylor NelsonGUEST
19:09
I think you've got a short trip there where Time Lords discover vending machines.
Taylor NelsonGUEST
19:16
Yes.
Taylor NelsonGUEST
19:19
Here's a new contest.
Taylor NelsonGUEST
19:20
What's the worst thing you could pitch to Big Finish?
Michael NixonHOST
19:26
The vendor trap.
Michael NixonHOST
19:27
Fuck.
KatHOST
6:07
you know right
Robert ShearmanGUEST

Christmas special which featured um uh it was it was last Christmas that's the one yeah so it was that Christmas and I've got a Santa Claus hat on and they've got me in the in the office the Big Finish office and I look just like him so I'm actually posing with the magazine and I put that up every what I should do is I should send it to you and you can you can stick it
KatHOST
6:29
that's the thumbnail
Robert ShearmanGUEST
6:32
that's the most Santa Claus I've ever looked and you know and I'm I'm trying to pull the same expression as I hold the magazine.

13 MINS LATER

Robert ShearmanGUEST
19:45
I would do.
Robert ShearmanGUEST
19:46
And I've been working for the last few years upon, you know, in script meetings quite a bit for Constellation for Apple.
Robert ShearmanGUEST
19:53
And I've been, you know, and I'm a writer, obviously, and I've been when I've been doing Chimes and Jubilee, which is just before my big finish audios as novels.
Robert ShearmanGUEST
20:04
I've been approaching them in that same way.
Julian RichardsGUEST
15:18
Some of you may know he met Patrick Troughton after a set visit to rehearsals for the Web of Fear, where, among other things, he was fascinated by Troughton's braces.
Julian RichardsGUEST
15:28
This story only became more surreal for me after I ended up in the green room at Big Finish Day when I was about 13, met Tom Baker for the first time, and he explained to me in great detail exactly what one needed in a pair of braces and where to buy them.

LAUGHTER
Julian RichardsGUEST
15:42
Now, I'd call Dreams of Empire a love letter to the Troughton era, but that misses the fact that it just is the Troughton era, captured perfectly in print by someone who loves it.
Julian RichardsGUEST
18:50
My next co-writing credit with Dad, he was ill.
Julian RichardsGUEST
18:54
We didn't know that he was ill at the time, it just seemed that he was fatigued.
Julian RichardsGUEST
18:58
I was at Moat Studios, sitting in on the recording of one of my Big Finish Short Tricks of Companion Chronicles.
Julian RichardsGUEST
19:04
I cannot remember which of them for the life of me.
OwenHOST
18:28
And then obviously at the moment where the show is out to tender, so it is in between.
OwenHOST
18:33
But there's still Doctor Who content, there's yourselves, there's Big Finish, there's still plenty out there for folks.
OwenHOST
18:39
And Titan do stuff as well with books and stuff.
OwenHOST
18:42
So is there much of a back and forth then that you have to be apprised? Because as you mentioned, they discover something.

26 MINS LATER

Jason QuinnGUEST
44:24
So it was it was it was working together on that one.
Jason QuinnGUEST
44:31
uh and then the other one was the fugitive doctor one so that one that went through and i put together a few ideas on that and the reason i did it was more not me thinking right i can uh I can do this because I'm the editor and I say, so I'm going to take this job.
Jason QuinnGUEST
44:54
It was more, it would be easier for me because it was part of this ongoing saga that Big Finish were doing stuff on this storyline, Titan were...
Jason QuinnGUEST
45:07
And so it made it easier for me because I was familiar with the whole thing rather than briefing someone else outside of it who would have to get clearance to see all the other things.
JohnstonHOST
6:30
The world building in this story is excellent, and it's a real shame that that world hasn't been revisited as much.
JohnstonHOST
6:40
I know there have been big finish box sets, I really enjoyed those big finish box sets, but...
JohnstonHOST
6:46
This just feels like it's the start of something new, and unfortunately it's the start of the final season of classic Doctor Who.
JohnstonHOST
6:55
It's proof that everything that we're going to talk about today is proof, but this is just proof that it was taken off air too soon because Doctor Who was building itself a new mythology and a new future here, and it's just so evident, so well done in Battlefield.

6 MINS LATER

JimmyHOST
13:34
I love the Brigadier and I'm glad we got him in the new series here in the Sarah Jane Adventures, but I think this would have been a brilliant end to sacrificing himself to save the world from the destroyer so yeah it's almost a shame it didn't work out but I'm glad it did and that they got that lovely little scene at the end with family and all the girls going off in Anselm and Lorne and so on but yeah it could have been very different I loved the throwbacks like the Liz Shaw security pass and just casually mentioning things like that I did find it odd that they said Zbrignia used to work with the Brigadier and yet they didn't do anything with it.
JimmyHOST
14:13
Like they didn't have the meat at all.
JimmyHOST
14:14
It's I'm surprised Big Finish hasn't done something
GregHOST
14:17
with it or the novels, but,
DavidHOST
45:17
Oh, yeah.
DavidHOST
45:19
I think there really has been, especially with those three who were kind of doing the convention circuits around the same time, who all came to Big Finish at the same time.
DavidHOST
45:30
You know, in fact, their first one, the first ever big finished Doctor Who, official Doctor Who release, was a multi-Doctor story featuring their three Doctors.
DavidHOST
45:40
So there is always a real...
DavidHOST
45:44
And they all had the same producer, John Nathan-Turner.
