Best Friends Animal Society

That same year, the members incorporated their sanctuary as a non-profit with no gods in the paperwork at all.

Today, you know it by the name it took later, Best Friends Animal Society.

You might have heard of it.

Best Friends went on to become the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the United States.

And do you want to know the part of the Vic story nobody remembers? Back then, the standard practice was to put down every dog seized from a fight ring.

Best Friends Animal Society asked the court to evaluate each dog one at a time, and the judge agreed.

Of about 50 dogs, 47 went to sanctuaries and rescues.

Four of them became certified therapy dogs.

And two out of every three dogs still waiting are adults, the ones nobody picks.

The rescue people are winning some ground, and they deserve credit for it.

Best Friends Animal Society says dog deaths in shelters dropped 8.5% last year, the first drop since 2020.

And it was still 320,000 dogs euthanized in American shelters last year, according to the ASPCA.

Katie Elkins, the rescue executive director, asked how she could help.

Elkins turned to Best Friends Animal Society, which gave the rescue a grant meant to keep pets out of shelters because of barriers such as moving costs.

The rescue also shared the story on social media, and the community responded.

The report says that about $18,000 was raised for housing and moving expenses.

Yeah, they even formed a band.

Well, the Peanuts have teamed up with Best Friends Animal Society to help you find your own Snoopy, Spike, Belle, Marbles, Olaf, or Andy.

Every pet has a unique personality, so just like Snoopy and his siblings are all their own characters, every dog and every cat in a shelter is an individual with their own quirks, energy, and personality and looking for a loving home.

That's Best Friends spokeswoman Rebecca Howard Cooper.

What does it mean to you to be at this event?

Best Friends Animal Society is a charity and organization I actually discovered when I was 13 years old.

I used to get the magazine sent to my house and it's been a lifelong dream to go to Kanawha, Utah.

I haven't been there yet, but I think Jill and I are going to plan a road trip and we're going to go.

This was my third year hosting the Best Friends Benefit to Save Them All.

Now, Best Friends Animal Society is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats in America's shelters and making the entire country no kill.

They run life-saving facilities and programs nationwide in partnership with more than 5,000 shelters and rescue organizations.

They operate the nation's largest no-kill animal sanctuary from their headquarters in Kanab, Utah.
