So I'm very happy to have him here.

Simon is the Director of Digital for Bluey at BBC Studios and is probably the most loved and nicest human in this industry.

But we'll get onto that, I'm sure.

So just talking about Bluey for one second.

I worked on BBC Two and BBC Three websites, especially in the days as iPlayer was launching and it was kind of that kind of test bed of putting full length content onto websites, which was super exciting.

I then made the move to BBC Worldwide as it was then.

It's now obviously BBC Studios, but I've been there for 17 years, which again is a very long time.

But it's been amazing.

Yeah.

But they're all BBC, you know, it's all BBC Studios sold, and they have to follow, like there's, there's like rules you have to follow in terms of how the show works and everything.

So, uh, um, anyway, uh, if you're a Mormon dancer, let us know.

So separately, Mattel and BBC Studios have expanded Bluey, the Australian children's animated series across Mattel brands, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, Polly Pocket and Uno.

Just shows how one partnership can open access to multiple characters, worlds and franchises if it's done correctly.

And then there's the rights-cleared model.

BBC Studios and Panasonic Avionics announced in May that they're building a bespoke version of BBC Player for seatback screens with a constantly updated library and the possibility of live BBC News, rights permitting, launching later this year.

Rights permitting.

That phrase is doing all the work.

It always is.

Zena Neofitu at BBC Studios said it directly.

Our IP, our rights, are extremely valuable, so licensing can't be bypassed.

And United launched a dedicated Peacock channel in May, which is the same idea from the other direction.

And I wonder whether this is like when you, restate there's this has caused the bbc to sit down and actually decide rather than it being a reiteration again and again like you have just used that word twice um of a previous well essentially it's been the same production up until russell t davis and that was maybe this is a sort of sense like well we want to rechange that sort of power relationship with the show um and sort of take it away from there being such a figurehead and a and and a a controlling cipher and we want something which is a little more traditional and one where it's not so locked i don't know it's a weird one i must admit it is yeah but do you know i think i don't mind it though i

think you might have stumbled across something which you maybe haven't realized and i don't it i don't realize because i've read the document and i've read the article several times because i've been helping on the dot two companion this week and that is that bbc studios specified on involvement.

What you're saying there, maybe the program's going to be working at one level and BBC Studios is going to be working at its own level with merchandise, et cetera, and they're going to be completely separate.

It feels like there's

a diffusion, to some degree, for some reason, of... of that previous situation.
