Edward SmithGUEST

I used to remember one of the defense contractors we helped do something really good for.
Edward SmithGUEST
27:26
And that guy would call me probably 10 years after I left Avnet, would still call me.
Edward SmithGUEST
27:30
Hey, can you help me with this? Do you know who I should call for this? And that tells you they trust you, that you're a trusted advisor to them, not just Somebody that they call, you know, are waiting for the call.
Edward SmithGUEST
27:42
They start calling you.

Edward SmithGUEST

Oh, I have gotten all kinds.
Edward SmithGUEST
33:27
I guess one of the biggest, you know.
Edward SmithGUEST
33:31
A piece of advice I got was from Mr. Gallagher at Avnet.
Edward SmithGUEST
33:35
When he said to me, hey, listen, you could try to win one customer at a time, or you can win over one supplier, which wins you a couple hundred customers over.
Samir Bounab ToledanoGUEST
11:51
For a few years, grew that company like fivefold.
Samir Bounab ToledanoGUEST
11:56
And then as we had a really good momentum with all the IoT wave, to continue to serve that wave, we sold that company to a big Fortune 500 called Avnet, which is a big electronic distributor, US-based in Phoenix.
Samir Bounab ToledanoGUEST
12:15
And this is when I moved from Europe to the U.S. actually.
Samir Bounab ToledanoGUEST
12:19
I was supposed to stay two years just to manage the integration and go back to France.
Scott AbbottGUEST
8:54
From there, that was kind of cool though, because I went from being kind of high profile entrepreneur to being an intrapreneur.
Scott AbbottGUEST
8:59
I got picked up by my buddies at Avnet, small little $32 billion publicly traded company.
Scott AbbottGUEST
9:04
And they asked me to become a guy who came in and helped them create new businesses, expand divisions.
Scott AbbottGUEST
9:09
And I had a blast, man.
Ian HellerHOST
23:42
Well, I think all that technology is getting a lot better, right? And I always make a distinction between a closed-box warehouse and a broken-box warehouse, right? So a broken box warehouse is your average local distributor, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, et cetera, where they've got all these cases and a lot of them in the warehouse are open and people have to take onesies and twosies out, right? And then you've got closed box or sealed box warehouses where you're moving pallets and sealed cases that never get opened until their next destination.
Ian HellerHOST
24:17
And, you know, so master distributors and food distributors and liquor distributors, and to some degree, electronics distributors, particularly the ones who serve manufacturing like Aero and Avnet, those are all, you know, sealed box warehouses, right? They never get opened at, well...
Ian HellerHOST
24:34
They rarely get opened at that distributor.
Ian HellerHOST
24:36
They're opened by their customers.

[upbeat music] Warehouses run on forklifts and data, however, the data often lags behind reality.
