So he has donated blood and plasma for a really long time and I jumped on that as soon as I was 16, back when 16-year-olds could donate blood.

And Lifeblood was doing a bit of a drive around getting people who donate blood to sign up for the stem cell registry as well.

So that's sort of how I got involved.

It was one extra vial that they took when I went in for my regular donation and I just sat on the registry.

Lifeblood is urging all healthy Aussies to roll up their sleeves to donate blood.

Plus, there's also a need for donations to meet the growing need for plasma treatments.

It is constant and ongoing, that need.

More than 75,000 blood and plasma treatments are needed to help save the lives of Australian children every year.

Lifeblood is urging anyone who is fit and well to book an appointment now and anyone recovering from illness to donate as soon as they can.

Only 3% of Aussies donate blood.
