It is an incredible course that we developed with the Alberta Machine Learning Institute, our third great national AI institute.

This is fantastic news.

But you know, I got two kids and they ask about jobs.

But this is actually an area, again, further to what Marco said, this is where Canada could play a role because Richard Sutton, Alberta, we have one of the other godfathers of artificial intelligence.

and the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, these organizations in Canada can play a very good role because they're not Canada or the United States sort of in that race.

And in terms of regulating the industry, the industry does need to be regulated.

I think I take James's point about watching for commercial reasons there, but I think these leaders are asking to be regulated because they're worried about it getting completely out of control or being used by bad actors.

We'll talk about that.

And of course, new models from, uh, Anthropic, OpenAI, the Chinese company, uh, Xiaomi.

It's, it's model extravaganza, and Paris says she's got a favorite.

Next, on Intelligent Machines.

Yeah.

Look, uh, I think, uh, there's a misconception that people believe that you're either gonna have one or the other in AI, and we are religious as a company with the idea that the future of the AI ecosystem is just diversity of models.

Um, there's many different types of architectures.

And it's in concert.

They're releasing it in concert with the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, which is known as AMI.

It's one of Canada's leading AI research facilities.

And the goal is to make sure that it's available across all provinces and territories so the Canadians can kind of up their AI skills.

She runs Pipiguan Pitiguan, an indigenous communications agency in Edmonton.

With help from the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute and guided by a circle of elders, she built Wasiguan Kisuwatsuin, which means kind energy in Cree.

The AI tool flags bias and hate before it spreads in a comment section, in a company email, in a sentence someone didn't realize was harmful until the tool told them so.

Shani didn't know much about AI when she started this.

Right.

And so from a lot of anger and pain, I just started asking questions because the next morning I literally woke up and I was like, okay, I'm going to figure out an app that's going to monitor for hate speech and help people understand what is harmful and why.

And that's how I got introduced to AMI, which is the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute.

And it's just located here close to me in Edmonton.

It led to OpenAI itself calling for global cooperation and safeguards on artificial intelligence.

Kevin Layton-Brown is a professor of computer science at the University of British Columbia and a Canada AI chair at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute.

That's one of three national institutes advancing AI research as part of the federal government's AI strategy.

And Francis Sims is the Associate Dean of Information and Communications Technology at Humber College.

I'm sure that's going to be a really interesting story.

And he has co-founded the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute, or AMI, and launched multiple successful technology ventures.

Jonathan's a former professor and a leading voice in trustworthy AI and is focused on building practical AI systems that enhance human intelligence while protecting privacy, ownership, and intellectual property.

Jonathan, that is quite a career.

Uh, in just a moment, uh, we're gonna take a look at a, a new partnership, the government of Alberta making sure, uh, that a million people or more truly know how to use AI, and they're putting an Edmonton organization in charge of making that happen.
