American Society of Plastic Surgeons

People want the correct information that is going to actually ensure the health and safety of their children or the given patient population, and not political advocac- advocacy or what's coming from these other industry groups.

And one more point on that that I think is particularly interesting is, um, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which presumably when we're talking about, you know, quote "gender affirming care" and these sex change surgeries, they stand to benefit almost more than any other, except maybe pharma, um, industry group because they're actually the ones who would be providing the service and the surgeries for all of these kids who are having mastectomies and everything else that comes with this.

Um, so they're creating these patients for life that would, you would think, benefit this group of practitioners.

And even after they said, "You know what? Never mind.

I don't know if we ever talked about this, but how I got to plastic surgery was a really direct line, and it's a familial line.

So my great-grandfather was a plastic surgeon, one of the first in the country, and one of the first – he actually was at the second meeting of what became the ASPS – And he immigrated from Scotland and moved to Detroit.

And then his son, my uncle, was a plastic surgeon.

And they had by that time moved into doing some aesthetic on the north side of town.

So we needed more people to just take on the workload.

And we did things very, very differently back then in terms of how we ran the practice.

Um, but, uh, but funny story, we had dinner, um, at, uh, I think the ASPS conference in 2008 and he gave me an offer letter and, uh, I, I didn't even open it.

I just, I just said, yeah, I think I'm, I think I'm on board and the rest is history.

So aspiration is not sufficient for diagnosis, but it does help you identify the cell types.

The Plastic Surgery Society has gone to direct us.

Testing for CD30 is required to confirm a rule out, BIA, ALCL.

Fluid clinicians that are not tested for CD30 can miss the diagnosis and then get treated as an ordinary seroma, which would not be appropriate.

What about patient trends? Is BBL still popular? Are you watching people wanting more, less, more natural? What do you think?

I think, you know, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons just released their 2025 statistics on the top five cosmetic surgeries.

But some of the trends that we're seeing are smaller patients.

sorry, I'm going to answer your question by answering a different question, but, you know, smaller breast volume, smaller implants.

So with the big weight loss boom, which has shifted consumer habits and created a massive new wave of a new sen- phenomenon of plastic surgery, where people are seeking both surgical and non-surgical procedures to fix all that loose skin and volume loss.

So it's called the rise of the Ozempic makeover, and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that member surgeons saw more than 837,000 GLP-1 patients coming in to fix their face, their arms, their you name it.

Hello, my name is, uh, Joyce McIntyre, and I'm an enthusiastic member of the Young Plastic Surgery Committee, uh, part of ASPS.

Professionally, I'm a craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgeon at the University of Massachusetts, uh, in Worcester, uh, Massachusetts.

And, uh, I first got involved in the YPS committee two thousand and, uh, fifteen or two thousand and sixteen.

I was nominated for the Essentials of, uh, Leadership program, uh, that ASPS runs, uh, by my chair.

And I can't recommend that program enough, um, in terms of skills, uh, mentorship, specific techniques that let you grow professionally, personally, and really, uh, getting to know and, uh, participate in ASPS.

I, uh, got involved with a, a young plastic surgeon committee, uh, out of that program, and it's just been such a positive, fun, educational experience.

The staff, uh, from ASPS, uh, that really coordinates the efforts, uh, is truly world-class and a pleasure to deal with.

Professionally, I've really enjoyed meeting and getting to know, uh, fellow plastic surgeons in my general, uh, age group, uh, from across the country, people, uh, from all different backgrounds and all different, uh, clinical practices, doing all kinds of different surgeries in plastic surgery.
