American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine

I'm a member of ANA.

I'm a member of AOSSM.

But when it comes down to it, this is the society where I feel I'm at home.

Um, this is where I, you know, I'm friends with a lot of people everywhere, but I feel that, uh, you know, my closest friends are in the ASCS.

Incentive is really to keep people playing and they want people playing earlier and specializing earlier.

And we know from a lot of the research that's put out by the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, or the AOSSM, that early sports specialization Doesn't really guarantee you anything other than it exposes you to more injury risk.

I mean, that's the bottom line.

It doesn't guarantee you're going to get a scholarship to college.

I think, you know, then kind of developing the field of pediatric sports medicine is really, you know, something I've worked hard on.

And I'm really proud of where we've come because I think it was a bit of a niche, like within Pediatric orthopedics and the POSNA meeting, we would have some sessions on sports medicine, you know, but it would be small during AOSSM and the sports medicine meetings.

We might have a symposium on ped sports.

And so trying to find a home for ped sports was really important.

And leadership is I think on the national scale, scale with, you know, orthopedic specialty organizations is, is very similar.

Like, you know, I mean, pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine and orthopedics have been, you know, I've been so blessed to be able to be in those fields.

Well, what can you do to, to give back, you know, and I think serving, starting by serving on committees and PASNA and AOSSM and the academy, and then you know, focusing more and then being on boards and then in the presidential line, I think has been really great because I think you can positively affect the field and those going into the field, make it a better place.

I think the relationships you develop are really extraordinary.
