Um, just recently, we had a, a, a task force assembled by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine to, um, create, um, home health and durable medical equipment standards for ALS.

Un- unfortunately, our healthcare system currently is very reactive in that too often we only provide, uh, durable medical equipment after someone has lost function.

In, in diseases that are progressive, uh, we, we know what, uh, the trajectory typically is for these individuals, so the, a better approach would be for us to be proactive in anticipating the, the future care needs, providing education and equipment, um, when we predict someone is going to lose function so that that individual and their family are prepared, um, for, for what may lay ahead.
