Now, there is a proper history to this one.

Canned salmon was introduced to American home cooks by the Alaska Packers Association at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904.

And that same year, the association put out a little book called How to Eat Canned Salmon, which contained three different salmon loaves, All three of them work the same way, which is canned fish bound with a soft paste of cracker or breadcrumbs, milk, and eggs.

It went into every church cookbook in the country after that.
