AGL Energy Limited

Interesting issue.

It's an issue that is, you know, quite uncomfortable to discuss, but if we're not prepared to discuss it and face it head on, how is it supposed to change? Interesting to see what AGL Energy has said in the last 24 hours about these data centres.

AGL is recognising that a lot more needs to happen before they commit their hard-earned, their corporate dollar into these data centres.

And data centres are putting huge pressure on New South Wales electricity's grid already, but energy giants say old power sites could provide a shortcut.

He, he sort of wanted Atlassian staff to take the day off and really, um, you know, show their climate stripes and so on.

Um, and that, that led, you know, uh, to his AGL Energy investment.

Um, Scott probably had similar, a similar outlook on life, but I think for Scott the main game was Atlassian.

And, you know, Mike all of a sudden had a lot of distractions and, you know, his main game kind of appeared to be, uh, you know, being a climate warrior.

The same general idea was then applied by Tesla across South Australia where energy prices had long been volatile beginning in 2018.

That program reached 50,000 homes by 2020 and then the program was acquired by an energy company called AGL in 2025. which further expanded it until the virtual power plant had a capacity of 25 megawatts of peaker solar energy and 37 megawatts of battery-stored peaker energy.

Now again, the idea here is that there is a certain amount of energy available on the grid coming from standard baseload production sources, including traditional coal and gas power plants, hydroelectric plants, and nuclear power plants.

There are also solar and wind arrays that make up the baseline energy load in some parts of the world, and that baseline can be augmented by utility-scale battery facilities that allow wind and solar overproduction to be stored.

And I've had them checked by colleagues, Gavin Gilchrist, one of them, the head of a community energy group.

And And when you have a look at it, what you can see is the standing charges that are in place, whether across AGL, Origin, Glowbird, and I'm not singling just them out, Energy Australia, when they finally got around to actually putting out a solar share tariff.

And that's only so that you've got an anchor in, you know, the network charges as a fixed, you're removing a variable by locating it in one particular network area.
