M
42:11Marella FernandezHOST

M
42:15Marella FernandezHOST
So why do you like Akon Group? And people are piling into Byrd, as we talked about.
M
42:20Marella FernandezHOST

Right.
N

Because Akon would subcontract some of the work out or Carillion would subcontract some of the work out.
N
9:36Nitin KhannaGUEST
So when you deal with those small business owners, you realize they have no system in place.
N
9:41Nitin KhannaGUEST
They don't know how to collect the money on time or how to pay their bills on time or how to put scales in place or how to put the systems in place and how to build a second layer of leadership in place.

J
14:06JCAUDIENCE
It seems like it's the cheapest in the space here.
J
14:09JCAUDIENCE
I did really well on Akon.
J
14:11JCAUDIENCE
By anyone, is that a favor for about a quadruple right now? Do you think North American can have a nice rebound as well?
J
14:17John ZechnerGUEST
Yeah, you know what? That's interesting because we own it.
J
14:32John ZechnerGUEST
in the oil sands and in terms of capital spending there but they diversified very well they've done australian acquisitions they've gone into other constructions i think the oil sands are now probably only you know 10 to 15 percent of their total you know operating earnings so uh and the valuation of what they've bought in australia looks you know fantastic when the construction is picking up theirs kind of picking up domestically things trading at about you know three three and a half times operating cash flow about eight nine times earnings and it just it You know, these things are not, you know, they're out of favor right now.
J
15:04John ZechnerGUEST
But you're right.
J
15:05John ZechnerGUEST
I mean, Akon's had a better move.
J
15:06John ZechnerGUEST
Berg Construction's had a decent move.

A
26:08Amber KanwarHOST
We've got a question on Akon, ticker A-R-E, this one from sat83 on Instagram.
A
26:14Amber KanwarHOST
What do you think about Akon? And this one has been a pretty resilient, you know, there's been some choppiness, but like an engineering construction company, you know, record backlog.
A
26:25Amber KanwarHOST
Do you like it?
R
26:27Ryan BushellGUEST
So we own it and we went through the choppy times with the fixed price contracts that dogged the company for a few years.
Pitch perfect
R
5:37Russell HixsonHOST
So construction has officially begun on Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, refurbishment that will extend the operating life of four CANDU reactors at the place in Ontario by up to 38 years and generating 2,200 megawatts of power for 2.2 million homes.
R
5:56Russell HixsonHOST
So major contracts include a $1.7 billion agreement with Atkins Realis and Akon, and that's alongside a $1.3 billion turbine generator contract with Akon and Siemens Energy Canada.
R
6:10Russell HixsonHOST
So they plan to keep over 90% of their construction spending in Ontario.
R
6:14Russell HixsonHOST
So the project is projected to create 30,500 annual construction jobs and generate $41.6 billion in GDP and secure a long-term supply of medical isotopes while shielding Ontario's grid from foreign energy dependencies.
